Why I Am an IMAlive Volunteer

My name is Brice. I am a poet here in Colorado, frequenting many open mics to share my poetry as often as I can. As a poet and general lover of many art forms I consider myself a creative person. I find myself surrounded by a community of creative and amazing people who inspire me and challenge me to be a better person. Something I've found is that creative types are often people who've been marginalized by society or don't fit into society's idea of normal, but the truth is it is this quality that makes these people around me what they are. It is also where ideas that challenge the world often come from. I have friends and family who suffer from all sorts of mental conditions, from depression to bipolar disorder, to alcoholism and social anxiety. It's all around all of us, so I want to be part of the good fight. These people have way too much to offer the world for their voices to not be heard. I want to help build a soapbox for them to stand on so people can be more connected through two things that I value very highly, compassion and listening.
